Springtime in Finland is a time of transition and renewal. As the snow melts and temperatures start to rise, the landscape begins to transform beginning with the melting of snow that covers the roads and yards and every open places around. The places begin to wet and dirt spreads throughout. The big piles of snow in our yard for example begin to melt during the day when the temperature rises to above 0 degrees, and again freezes at night when the temperature drops to a minus degree. It is then that the yard becomes so slippery and accidents are common during this time, so watch out. To be prepared, remember the following tips:
- Use shoe spikes to help you walk safely. The melted once and frozen snow could do this danger, so it is highly suggested to use shoes with anti slid screws. You can find these products easily online or in shops around.
- Use walking sticks if you are comfortable with it. It is very common to see people in Finland particularly older ones using this. You can check out this product here.
- Spray your yard or path walks with sand so you can walk freely and safely. The instant grip sand holds your feet in place so it doesn’t slip through the slippery frozen yard.
- You can also spray chemically processed salt on your yard or anywhere you want the snow to melt faster, say in minutes. In our garage for example, we cannot open the door when the snow has frozen and blocked the sliding door. This helped us a lot.
Surely, spring is a good time for many people as the day becomes longer as each day that pass until the time when the night will be again longer than the days -in winter. Outdoor activities become a thing for many once more. Many people spend more time outside enjoying the bright sunlight and the fresh air coupled with good sights of the birds and their sweet melodies. This is spring time in Finland.
