What is the difference?
Farmed blueberries in Finland are called “pensasmustikka”. They are typically cultivated in large fields or plantations with controlled growing conditions. These cultivated blueberries are often larger in size and have a milder flavor compared to wild blueberries. The plants are carefully tended to, ensuring optimal growing conditions and maximizing the yield of the harvest.
In contrast, wild blueberries grow naturally in forests, marshes, and other wild areas. They are smaller in size, more flavorful, and often prized for their intense taste. The color also differs for farmed berries are lighter in color than the wild ones. In addition, farmed berries are big bush while the wild ones are more like a shrub.
Additionally, wild blueberries are known for their rich antioxidants, which are attributed to their natural growing environment. Both farmed and wild blueberries are widely used in Finnish cuisine, with each variety offering unique characteristics for different culinary purposes.
