Gotcha! 2 Pikes about 1,5-2 kilos each.
We were lucky to have these ones today through dock fishing in the lake. In Finnish, these fish is called “hauki” . There are two, one being almost 2 kilos and the other one over a kilo.
Hauki is a Finnish word that translates to “pike” in English. It refers to a large predatory freshwater fish found in the northern parts of Europe and North America. The hauki is known for its long, slender body, aggressive hunting behavior, and sharp teeth. It is a popular game fish among anglers and is often sought after for its challenging fight. In traditional Finnish cuisine, hauki is used in various dishes, such as soups, stews, and grilled preparations. For this one, we made fish soup.
Other times from this lake we get ahven which are very easy to collect but are also small to have a good bite size fish. Ahven, also known as European perch, is a freshwater fish species commonly found in lakes, rivers, and ponds across Europe and Asia. It is a popular game fish known for its distinctive appearance, with a greenish-bronze body marked by dark vertical stripes. The ahven is a carnivorous fish, preying on smaller fish, crustaceans, and insect larvae. It is valued by anglers for its fighting spirit and delicious, flaky white flesh. Ahven is often caught using live bait, lures, or fly fishing techniques. In some regions, ahven fishing is a traditional and important activity for both recreational and commercial purposes. Due to its popularity, special regulations may be in place to manage ahven populations and ensure sustainable fishing practices. Ahven is also celebrated as a culinary delicacy, prepared in various ways such as pan-fried, grilled, or used in fish soups and stews.
