This is my best photo for the Grouse bird better known in Finnish as “Fasaani”. I am amazed to see such a big bird that resembles the farmed chicken in the Philippines we used to have when I was a kid. It is a common sight to see in Finland comes spring time- even at your doorstep!
The red grouse is a medium-sized bird of the grouse family. It is usually classified as a subspecies of the willow ptarmigan but is sometimes considered to be a separate species, Lagopus scotica. It is also known as the moorcock, moorfowl or moorbird. Wikipedia
Finland has good populations of five northern Grouse species – Capercaillie, Black Grouse, Hazel Grouse, Willow Grouse and Rock Ptarmigan. They all can be photographed during Finnature’s tours ( see Finnature).
There are other species of birds that I am interested to photograph when I get the chance which I will post later.
Spring time is best in Finland, it reminds me of a thousand birds singing in the trees back in my country every afternoon before sunset.
